Popis: Objectives:To investigate the role of free oxygen radicals in the etiopathogenesis of adenoid hypertrophy.Materials and Methods:Ninety-one patients planned to have adenoidectomy were included in the study. The levels of plasma malondialdehyde and superoxide dismutase were measured in the venous blood, which was taken from the patients before and two weeks after adenoidectomy. Furthermore, the levels of malondialdehyde and superoxide dismutase in adenoid specimens were also measured. Results:The mean plasma levels of malondialdehyde were measured as 36.25+/-11.50 nmol/grHb before adenoidectomy and 32.38+/-8.17 nmol/grHb two weeks after adenoidectomy (p0.05).Conclusion:Regarding the findings we think that free oxygen radicals may be a factor in the etiopathogenesis of adenoid hypertrophy and this subject is in need of further studies.
