An experiment was carried out in 28 male albino rats kept on standard basal diet in order to observe the effect of honey given orally on haemoglobin concentration and blood cell counts. Honey given in the dosage of 4-5.2 ml./day (equivalent to 500-1,000 ml./day for a 50 kg. man) for 4 to 6 weeks, was insufficient to yield any hamatopoietic or trophic effect in both normal and anaemic rats. In the latter group a significant positive result was obtained by feeding with iron ammonium citrate mixture. |
