Popis: Sensing schemes based on exceptional point degeneracies in the resonant spectrum of non-Hermitian systems have been recently criticized for being susceptible to various sources of noise and structural imperfections. Here, the authors study non-resonant exceptional point degeneracies in the spectrum of transfer matrices of periodic structures, based on which passive sensors with enhanced noise resilience are then proposed.
