A review of the literature on selective laser trabeculoplasty was conducted. This is a relatively recent non-invasive laser technique which is used in the treatment of open-angle glaucoma with a frequency-doubledNd: YAG laser (Laserex Tango LT5106-T Nd: YAG laser, Ellex Medical Pty Ltd for selective trabeculoplasty). Increased life expectancy of the population increases the incidence of glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Laser therapy has proven to be effective in antiglaucoma treatment. Selective laser trabeculoplasty is a novel technique, effective, selective, and with few complications. These facts have motivated this research with the aim of showing its indications and contraindications, the mechanism of action, description of the technique, its effectiveness and its complications. |
