Three manuscripts from Mont Saint-Michel, now in the library of Avranches (nr. 226, 235 and 240), transmit a part of Martianus Capella’s work. These three manuscripts are commonly not used by the editors of the text, but they reflect different ways of reading and understanding the Marriage of Philology and Mercury at Mont Saint-Michel between the XIth and the XIIIth century. By highlighting the peculiarities of these three manuscripts, this paper aims to study their intellectual background and their place in the history of the text. |
