Popis: Backgound: Gallic acid (GA) is a polyphenolic substance which can be sourced naturally from plant sources and can also be synthesized industrially. In-depth study on GA in recent years has revealed that it has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. In many disease models, GA has been found to ameliorate oxidative stress, inflammation and resultant damage. The neuroprotective properties of GA against numerous animal models of neurodegenerative disorders have been outlined by a number of in vivo investigations. Method: However, this present review is dedicated towards providing recent and comprehensive information on the bioavailability, neuroprotective effects and underlying mechanism of GA neuroprotective activity for the management of animal models of neurodegenerative disorders. Result: The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of GA demonstratively was highlighted as the backbone of its neuroprotective effect. Conclusion: It is safe to conclude that the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, metal chelating properties of Gallic acid has proved beneficial against neurodegenerative diseases, hence the use of it should be recommended as a single therapy or a combination therapy with the currently approved drugs for the management of these neurodegenerative diseases.
