Popis: Anthroponomy is a discipline with a long tradition in the study of names that has anthropological, historical, sociological and, of course, linguistic explanatory dimensions that contribute enormously to the knowledge and understanding of past and present man. Recently, from 1970 to the present, the emergence and development of information technology and the Internet implied a great step for humanity in terms of technology and the democratization of knowledge. However, three sectors of society have used this technology to inappropriately and maliciously access the information of the people: the politician, for electoral purposes, the commercial one, for the client's portfolio and publicity, and that of the thieves, for the fraud and impersonation. As a response in Mexico two laws were created: the “Ley de Protección de Datos Personales en Posesión de Particulares”, 2010, and the “Ley General de Protección de Datos Personales en Posesión de Sujetos Obligados”, 2017. Cause this, a paradox for anthroponomy scholars arises, that what is their object of study is now an object that is legally forbidden to them. This paper reviews this problem and proposes some urgent actions to address it.
