Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of 18% ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), 2% peracetic acid (PAA), and 9% etidronic acid (HEBP) on the organic tissue dissolution activity of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl). Materials and Method: Sixty samples with similar weight and dimensions were obtained from bovine muscle tissue. The tissue samples were blotted dry on filter paper and weighed with a precision balance. The specimens were immersed in following solutions: (1) 2 mL 2.5% NaOCl, (2) 1 mL 5% NaOCl + 1 mL 18% EDTA, (3) 1 mL 5% NaOCl + 1 mL 2% PAA, (4) 1 mL 5% NaOCl + 1 mL 9% HEBP. The specimens were then dried and weighed again. The weight loss of each specimen incubated in the test solutions was measured at 30 and 60 min. The data were statistically analyzed with one-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey tests. Results: Use of NaOCl (5%) together with 18% EDTA resulted in minimal tissue dissolution capacity compared to the other groups at both time points (p |
