| Popis: | The Cayman Islands managed to become a haven amid a perfect storm. The country has been kept safe from COVID-19: in balancing out a health crisis against an economic crisis, the former won.Cayman exemplifies a very successful COVID-19 response, with no significant local transmission since July 2020, almost all imported cases from returning travellers while in quarantine and only 2 deaths. Cayman has a population of ca. 71,000 (Spring 2021), a very high GDP per capita (91,052 USD, 2019) and has one of the most comprehensive public financial management legal frameworks in the Caribbean. However, Cayman’s COVID-19 response has been extremely expensive, including full border closures since 15 March 2020, a short but hard 2-month lockdown, comprehensive local testing and making the most of their strategic partnership with the UK, their sovereign.This critical analysis is structured in three main sections, comprising the public health response, local financial management and post-pandemic recovery follows. Literature blends local and international sources. |
