This research identifies the vulnerabilities and hazards faced in the two case studies: Zacatecas, Mexico, y Cordoba, Argentina in Latin America, there are common urban problems such as the risk of heritage loss related to several factors, ranging from uncontrolled urban growth, no rehabilitation of historic buildings, or large architectural projects that disrupt urban landscapes. This research adopts a three-stage methodology, starting from the study of heritage characteristics, types of vulnerabilities, hazards, and finally, the risk assessment of cultural heritage loss. The investigation followed the theory of Wilches-Chaux to identify vulnerabilities while for hazards it uses the instruments of the Risk Atlas and field research. The results point out that both urban centers do not show cultural vulnerability since they contain a significant historical heritage and recognition as World Heritage Sites. Regarding hazards detected, centers show opposite results: Zacatecas, for example, faces hazards for its settlement on mining funds. In Cordoba, on the other hand, some projects and buildings alter their urban landscape in the proximity of the Jesuit block of heritage value. |
