Oncocytic cystic lesions of the larynx are uncommon occurrences. The laryngeal cysts generally originate from the ventricles or false cords and occur in older age groups. Hoarseness is the most common clinical manifestation. Their pathogenesis is considered to be the result of oncocytic metaplasia, apparently related to aging of cells in the seromucinous gland and ducts. Complete microlaryngoscopic removal is the treatment of choice. An unusual case of oncocytic cyst of the larynx is described. The pathology and treatment are discussed. |
