Popis: In medieval tales of oriental origin, the parrot appears as a bird with the ability to speak like humans. This characteristic makes it the protagonist of some stories because it allows it to act as a spy for the jealous husband. However, ultimately, this will be the cause of its death as the bird will fall into the trap of the cunning spied wife. This paper will trace a brief journey from the tales of the Castilian Calila e Dimna and the Sendebar to their later derivations and will analyse the causes of the substitution of the colourful parrot for the more ordinary magpie in these later texts, now fully peninsular.
