| Popis: | While the pathomechanisms of α-synucleinopathies are not completely understood, accumulating evidence suggests a role of neuroinflammation in the development and progression of the diseases. In addition, emerging data provide insights into the potential role of central neuroinflammation in prodromal α-synucleinopathies. Given the considerable bidirectional crosstalk between peripheral and central inflammation, peripheral blood inflammatory cytokines may be a useful tool to understand immune responses in association with α-synucleinopathies. Indeed, the accessibility and practicality of using blood samples have facilitated multiple investigations evaluating peripheral blood inflammatory cytokines in overt α-synucleinopathies, whereas the associations between these biomarkers and prodromal α-synucleinopathies remain unclear. In this review, we provide an overview of the current evidence available for the role of peripheral blood inflammatory cytokines in prodromal and overt α-synucleinopathies. |
