The contact points between coarse aggregates in steel slag asphalt mixture are critical areas of stress concentration and weak links in the stress transmission path. To date, research on the contact between coarse aggregates in steel slag asphalt mixture has mainly been conducted at a two-dimensional scale, with little research into the three-dimensional contact state of coarse aggregates. This study proposed a method based on X-ray computer tomography (CT) scanning images to calculate the three-dimensional contact points of coarse aggregates, analyze the differences in the contact points of coarse aggregates within different gradations of coarse and fine material, and evaluate the effective contact rate of aggregates. The results suggest that the average number of contact points in the vertical direction of coarse aggregates is greater than that in the horizontal direction and that the average number of contact points between coarse aggregates is different in the upper, middle, and lower regions of the specimen. The effective contact number between coarse aggregates in fine-grained steel slag asphalt mixture is the lowest, and its skeleton contribution rate is also the least. However, the skeleton structure of coarse aggregates inside a coarse-grained steel slag mixture is better in terms of spatial structure. The research results can be used to optimize the main skeleton structure of asphalt mixtures and improve their mechanical properties. |
