Signs suggestive of pain during the venous puncture in preterm newborns

Popis: | Objective: to identify the suggestive signs of pain in preterm newborns in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Bahia’s Countryside during venous puncture by applying the NIPS scale. Method: this is a descriptive and quantitative study that was made in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, with 29 newborns. Results: the average gestational age was 31.9 weeks and the average birth weight was 1,718 g. 93.1% of newborns were female. 69% of newborns suggested no signs of pain. The suggestive signs of pain were contracted face, crying, arms and legs flexed and changed breathing pattern. Conclusions: the care nursing should focus on the assessment and management of pain in the newborn |
