After the UK EU referendum (2016), the UK government pledged to create a truly «Global Britain». The Foreign Office set to upgrade and develop comprehensive cooperation with the Commonwealth member-states. On this track the controversial dialogue with India should be distinguished. In June, 2019 the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons concluded that the UK government missed the opportunity to build a special relationship with New Deli due to hostile immigration policy and an inconsistent diplomatic strategy. The UK’s interest towards India is driven by the political and economic potential of the latter. The UK government seeks to take advantage of comprehensive engagement with India and bolster London’s strategic position in the Indo-Pacific and international trade at post-Brexit age. |
