Popis: | Minor salivary gland tumors constitute 15–20% of salivary gland neoplasms and are very rare. Polymorphous adenocarcinoma of the minor salivary gland usually arises in the palate and buccal mucosa and rarely on the upper lip and the base of the tongue in the age group of 50–70 years. It is more common in females than in males with the female to male ratio being 3:1. It shows recurrence rates of up to 19% and has transforming potential to high-grade malignancy. Regional and distant metastasis is rarely reported in polymorphous adenocarcinoma. Lymph node metastasis as a presenting symptom of polymorphous adenocarcinoma is extremely rare. It is characterized by morphological diversity and cytological uniformity. We report a case of 30-year-old female with 3 months gestation who presented with cervical lymph node mass as a presenting symptom of polymorphous adenocarcinoma arising from the base of the tongue. |
