Popis: | This article deas with the metaphoric conceptualization of human internal mental sphere categories in the Christian religious discourse. The object of this study are mortal sins, dominant Christian anti-values as they have deen verbalized in Ukrainian religious discourse. The purpose of the article is to роint out the conceptual characteristics and structure types of mortal sins associated with their vegetative characteristics. Language material was selected by continuous sampling of works bеlonging to Ukrainian religious discourse of different genres: homilies, catechetical texts, moral theology, dogmatics, etc. In order to identify the specific features of conceptualization in Ukrainian religious discourse, appropriate metaphorical conceptualization in the Holy Scripture and writings of the Church Fathers has been taken into account. Observations on the implementation of the cognitive model SIN→ROOT in contemporary Ukrainian discourse of moral theology reveal that the conceptualization of deadly sins using the image of the root they mostly rely on ready reсonsiderations available in the New Testament and writings of the Fathers of Church with only slightly expanding. Analysis of numerous contexts demonstrates that in Ukrainian religious discourse mainly “erased” metaphors are present (sin is rooting, taking roots, launching more and more roots, it has been tеared out, eradicated, burnt out, etc.) which has strengthened in linguo-cultural traditions of society. Тherefore, speakers do not realize the secondary nomination of many words which are assoсiatеd with abstract categories of deadly sins. This points on marginality of vegetative area for conceptualizing these antivalues of Christianity. For this purpose, as will be shown in the following publications, Ukrainian preachers and theologians rather use other realities. Their identification and analysis apeears to be a promising area for further study of the concepts of mortal sins metaphorization in modern Ukrainian religious discourse. |
