Agronomic management of energy sugarcane cultivars as biomass fuel for bioelectric plants in Cuba

Popis: The research was carried out at the station of the del Instituto de Investigaciones de la Caña de Azúcar (INICA Villa Clara), located in the municipality of Ranchuelo, Villa Clara province, and its objective was to determine the most efficient management of the planting and harvesting times of the energy sugarcane cultivar ‘C90-176’, as raw material for bioelectricity in Cuba. Twenty-five treatments combining five planting dates and five possible harvesting dates of the cultivar were evaluated. The highest biomass production was obtained in the treatments planted from April to June and harvested in September and October at 16 and 17 months of age. Energy sugarcane can be harvested throughout the year for multipurpose use: obtaining bagasse for electricity generation, obtaining juice or honeys for animal feed, and alcohol production.
