Temporal and Spatial Dynamics of Floods in Guaíba Lake and Jacuí Delta (RS) Between 1940 and 2015

| Popis: | To create a flood history’s database in Guaíba Lake and Jacuí Delta, a survey of the events was carried out between 1940-2015, assessing the annual, seasonal and monthly characteristics of them. Events were characterized for its intensity and frequency. The main affected sites were also identified and the number of people affected was assessed. The results indicate that the municipality of Porto Alegre is the one with the highest number of occurrences of floods, with 46 records; Eldorado do Sul recorded 9 events, Guaíba 5 events; whereas Barra do Ribeiro and the village of Itapuã in the municipality of Viamão, accounted 1 event during 1940-2015. Understanding the history and the evaluation of the spatial and temporal dynamics of these floods is paramount for the management and planning of the affected areas |
