In a European Union affected by war, by the negative economic consequences of the pandemic, by the energy crisis and a technological gap compared to other developed regions of the world, Romania seems to be the weak link. This aspect is confirmed by the DESI rankings from recent years, where Romania consistently appears to occupy the last position for most of the indicators that make up the index. Realities such as the recent rejection of Romania’s accession to the Schengen area and the reduced capacity to absorb European funds are just some of the consequences of the slow pace of administrative simplification and digital transformation. What is DESI and what is Romania’s position in the DESI rankings are the main questions that the current article aims to answer. |
