A brief description of what is understood by health promotion and its relationship with the Edinburgh Declaration, final report of the World Conference on Medical Education held in 1988, is made. Also, the purpose of medical education is linked (to professionals of health) according to this Declaration and its operationalization through the Health Promoting Universities Movement, which should not only train professionals oriented to this field, but also for the institution to create conditions and environments that favor health and well-being. It is reflected that in order to fulfill this purpose and the recommendations of the Edinburgh Declaration it is necessary to merge the criteria, variables and standards to achieve educational and institutional quality with the components to be a Health Promoting University. |
