Objectives: Meniere and glaucoma are socially important diseases that affect people’s life quality. We planned and performed this study in order to find out audiovestibular pathologies of glaucoma patients, visual and intraocular pressure changes of Meniere patients and according to the embryologic, biochemical and physiopathological similarities between two diseases, to search for any relationship or coincidence between Meniere disease and glaucoma. Methods: In our study under the light of detailed ear, nose and throat examination, eye examination and audiologic findings, the results of Meniere disease, primary open angle glaucoma and control groups were investigated. Results: In 30 Meniere patients only one (3.3%) primary open angle glaucoma was identified. In 31 primary open angle glaucoma patients, two (6.4%) were diagnosed with Meniere disease. There were no statistically significant differences between the primary open angle glaucoma patients and the control group in terms of audiological findings (p>0.05).Conclusion: We found that primary open angle glaucoma prevalence in Meniere patients and Meniere prevalence in primary open angle glaucoma patients were higher than the normal population’s prevalences in the literature. But we could not found statistically significant differences between the primary open angle glaucoma patients and the control group in terms of audiological findings. |
