Popis: Systemic sepsis is a potentially life-threatening illness and immunocompromised individuals are especially vulnerable. Here, using a cohort of patients with intra-abdominal origin sepsis, the authors show an important role for the NLRP3 inflammasome in establishing a host response, and NLRP3 dysfunction is a common feature of sepsis mortality.
