| Popis: | Recalling the 1st Faculty of Arts of Porto (1919-1931), we aim at presenting a critical approach on one of its controversial themes: the academic career paths of its professors. Even though some of them became established names in Portuguese culture and science, often their professional trajectories were widely criticised for procedures taken, an aspect, which led to a negative image of the wider institution. This is somehow illustrative of the educational policies and external interference in national higher education during the 1st Republic (1910-1926), revealing the particular challenges and complexity of integrating social and human sciences’ teaching at the University of Porto. |
