In the last years of his life, Ahmet Haşim suffered from severe health problems and went to Frankfurt, Germany in 1932 in order to be treated. During the train journey, he wrote his impressions about the countries and the people living there. When Haşim returned to Turkey, his impressions were firstly published in the newspaper and then were collected and published in a book. It is possible to find some insights into the image of Germany, especially in cultural, social and political contexts - a few months before Adolf Hitler's seizing power. These travels, which were translated into German by Beatrix Caner about 75 years later, created images of many Turkic Germany at the time, and for that reason, they are also of importance, since he wrote down his experiences and impressions with both positive and negative aspects. |
