Popis: The main objective of this paper is to describe the development of the right to earnings compensation during a temporary disability to work. This right is of great importance in the system of health insurance, and therefore in social security as a whole. On the basis of this right, in the absence from work for medical reasons, the existence of the insured is not called into question. In Serbia, this right in the normative sense has a very dynamic development. No matter what has been introduced since 1945, in our country's socialistic social order, only a short period of funding for this right was financed from the budget. Since 1950, this right has been financed in a classical way, through contributions to compulsory social insurance. Apart from the fact that the right to remuneration has had a very dynamic development in terms of legislative activity, this right, regardless of its social component, was gradually reduced in order to accommodate the financial capabilities of society, ie. to ensure its financing to the extent that it is financially sustainable. Apart from the fact that this paper gives a normative presentation of the regulation of this right, exact financial indicators for its provision are given, which clearly show the importance of this right in terms of the overall health insurance system costs, and therefore the share of the same costs in the total health insurance expenditures as well.
