Popis: In the Houses of Opium, published in Lin Tchi Fá – Lotus Flower: Poems of the Far East (1925), the lusa Maria Ana Acciaioli Tamagnini Barbosa denounces the human decadence, provided by visits in legal commercial establishments, for consumption of a drug immersed in Chinese culture, since the 18th century, coming from India, which was accepted in the Macao social landscape at the time of Portuguese colonization. The poem, which evokes realistic, parnassian and symbolist elements, revealing terrible impressions about addicts, will be studied from the perspective of the witness of the image (Burke).
