Despite the undeniable influences that central urban policies have on cities, local social and political dynamics can seriously impact democratic practices such as local elections and subsequent local governments. There is, however, insufficient amount of research on how these dynamics are shaped and the way they work in different cities. This paper uses monographs on the districts of Ankara prepared over the last decade to make assessments and comments regarding the political, spatial and social variables of districts, how they can impact important political events like local elections and how projections can be made in view of each district’s own social characteristics. |
