In order to investigate the anti-photoaging effect and mechanism of tomato and aronia extracts, the effects of tomato extract and aronia extract on apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) were studied in UVB-irradiated HaCaT cells. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining was used to evaluate the anti-photoaging effect of tomato and aronia complex (LA) on skin photoaging in UVB-irradiated ICR mice. The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) and the expression of pro-inflammatory factors interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were detected. The results showed that tomato extract and aronia extract were not cytotoxic to HaCaT cells.
