The example is a complex topic that can be approached and studied from various points of view and within several different frameworks: rhetorical, linguistical, philosophical etc. With linguistics as a starting point we study the mathematical example from a textual point of view, and as a particular case of the example. We start with a short presentation of the general theoretical framework and the operational concepts employed in our analysis, while insisting on the various meanings of exemplification. In a second step we examine the mathematical examples using quantitative textual tools before proceeding to a fine textual analysis of the marks of exemplification based on the method of analytical reading. We conclude by summarizing the main results of the analysis and discussing the prospects they reveal. |
