Abstract Background The safety and short-term outcomes of gastrectomy after preoperative chemotherapy plus immunotherapy (PCIT) versus preoperative chemotherapy (PCT) in patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC) remain unclear. This study was conducted to compare the safety and short-term efficacy of PCIT with those of PCT in patients with AGC. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the data of patients with AGC who received PCIT or PCT at Peking University Cancer Hospital and Institute Gastrointestinal Cancer Center I between January 2019 and June 2021. The clinical characteristics were recorded, and short-term oncological outcomes were compared. Independent t tests, Mann‒Whitney U tests, chi-square tests, and Fisher’s exact tests were used to calculate differences. The correlation analyses were performed using Pearson correlation.
