The Spanish Civil War was a conflict that was won in the rear. In the Republican Spain had much importance the fifth column: those who stayed on that side, were supporters of Franco and decided to act clandestinely against the Republic. To combat this fifth column were the forces of public order and security… But within them there was a lot fifth column. Republican power failed to clean traitors its security forces. It was another reason for their final defeat. This article analyzes the performance of the fifth column in the bodies of republican security, organization, and its importance in the final outcome of the war. |
