By introducing the local surface plasmon effect, metal nanoparticles have shown excellent performance in photovoltaic devices. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have high efficiency, low processing costs, and transparency when constructing integrated photovoltaic cells, so they are one of the best devices for generating electrons from solar energy. Energy conversion efficiency of DSSCs can be enhanced in several ways, such as improving light harvesting and electron shutling, among which plasmonic nanostructures have strong capabilities. Herein, we reviewed the latest developments in the plasmon effect, which depend on the optimization of size, shape, alloy composition and integration of metal nanoparticles. This review proposes guidelines for improving the photovoltaic parameters of DSSC by using metal nanoparticles. |
