Popis: Maternal condition during pregnancy such as nutritional status and pregnancy care is an important determinant of pregnancy outcome. The study aimed to explore information about pregnancy care carried out by mothers who gave birth to babies with low birth weight conditions. A qualitative study with phenomenological approach was undertaken in Raha, the city centre of Muna District, Southeast Sulawesi Province. This type of research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data were manually analysed using content analysis. The study found mothers’ perceptions of vulnerability in the gestation period determined when to start visiting for antenatal care. Visits to health care facilities were influenced by the quality of care provided by the health provider and good communication between pregnant women and officers. Traditional birth attendance was believed to be more experienced in handling mothers before giving birth to correct baby’s position and strengthen the womb. The study also found that mothers practiced food taboo for particular food such as pineapple, skipjack tuna, and squid
