| Popis: | The main find on a pedestal unearthed duringexcavations in the 2005 season at Patarawas a relief of Artemis. This article investigatesthe similarities and differences of thisfigure of Artemis, in comparison with the typeknown in scientific literature as the Artemis ofVersailles, which has been the focus of multilayereddebates concerning its date and artist.The Artemis figure is also compared withthe result of typological studies of this typeto the present day. Since it is one of the latestexamples of this type, the Pataran relief ofArtemis should be considered to be a local interpretationof the Versailles Artemis type. Yetit is original in respect to copy criticism andrecension. Found reused in a wall of one ofthe rooms in the East Porticus of the HarbourStreet at Patara, the find of this base with itsfigural relief requires a new evaluation of thedata concerning the place of this goddess withinthe cult tradition of the city. |
