Control of peripheral devices directly from a personal computer is a possibility that lowers automation costs at the locations where computers are already being used for other purposes. All new-generation computers come with built-in USB ports which can accommodate an interface providing for required digital inputs and outputs for the control of peripherals. Wireless technology enables dislocation of the executive part of the interface, while the computer remains in control without the necessity to trace cables from the computer to the controlled device. This paper proposes an interface which enables wireless 'on/off' control of peripheral devices via USB computer port. The control algorithm is executed directly on the computer, by a dedicated application, which communicates with the executive module of the interface via USB port and a wireless link. The interface and the computer can communicate both ways, which enables the user to easily implement his/her own control application if required. |
