THE USE OF AUTHENTIC TEXTBOOKS IN ENGLISH READING COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE FORMATION FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS OF LINGUISTIC DEPARTMENTS

Popis: The article deals with the problem of English reading communicative competence formation of university students of linguistic departments. The general characteristics of communicative competence in English reading have been given. The aims of its formation have been defined. The special aspects of reading skills’ formation for university students, who study the English language, have been determined. The efficiency and necessity of modern educational approaches usage at the foreign language classes have been substantiated. New methodological approaches in the development of communicative competence in reading have been described. The possibilities of their usage in the current conditions of the educational process have been analyzed. The worthwhile aspects which should be included in the process of developing foreign language communicative competences among university students of linguistic departments have been considered. The article states that the effectiveness and expediency of using modern pedagogical methods of teaching a foreign language, the use of various forms and types of interactive learning, the use of Internet resources, authentic textbooks and Internet services comprehensively contribute to the formation of English communicative competence in students’ reading. Modern approaches to teaching reading stimulate cognitive processes and form students’ mental lexicon. The article indicates on the role of the use of authentic textbooks with pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading exercises аs one of the means by which university students of linguistic departments develop creative abilities and logical thinking. The article states that the experience of using authentic textbooks also helps the students in future academic activities, language fluency and confidence when communicating with foreign students who are studying English. In order to choose a basic authentic textbook for learning English for а teacher, it is necessary to conduct a test control to determine the level of the English language of each student in particular. The article proves that the use of the materials related to the country the language of which is studied for reading by university students of linguistic departments activates language and speech material in the English language communication, develops their creative abilities and skills and broadens their outlook. The linguistic and cultural approach to teaching English provides students with a solid foundation for intercultural interaction and is aimed at educating students in the culture of speech and professional communication.
У статті розглядається питання, що стосується загальної характеристики іншомовної компетентності у читанні, його видів, цілей формування комунікативного читання у майбутніх вчителів іноземних мов при використанні автентичних підручників. Вказується на необхідність вдосконалення комунікативних вмінь та навичок студентів-філологів ЗВО з англійської мови шляхом використання лінгвокраїнознавчого матеріалу для читання. Обґрунтовано особливості формування вмінь англомовного читання студентів, ефективність і доцільність практичного застосування передтекстових, притекстових та післятекстових вправ для читання на заняттях з англійської мови. Доведено, що навчання іноземної мови з використанням автентичних підручників сприяють розвитку творчого підходу до усного мовлення та розвитку логічного мислення у студентів.
