At the present stage of development of society, when the tasks for different specialists become more complex, diverse and responsible, the requirements for the relevant staff increase. Especially when a person's professional activity takes place not only in ordinary, but in difficult and extreme conditions. The specialist needs not only professional education, but also the formation of a set of professionally important qualities to carry out their activities to the limit. Therefore, the problems of improving professional psychological selection require constant study, scientific analysis and improvement, taking into account the requirements of the functioning of modern society.Purpose. Coverage of the peculiarities of the organization and conduct of activities of professional and psychological selection of specialists whose activities take place in difficult and extreme conditions.Methods. To achieve this goal, a set of theoretical methods was used: analysis of the literature; systematization, structuring, generalization of the obtained results.Originality. As noted by K. Gurevich, “Everyone is capable of mastering any profession. It's all about how much effort and time it will take”.Professional selection is a system of activities that helps to determine the people most suitable for training and further professional activity according to their individual qualities. To achieve this goal you need to use a variety of methods and procedures specific to different stages of development of the organization and specific tasks of management. That is, to conduct a comprehensive study of personality, which allows to determine and identify the degree and possibility of psychophysiological socio-psychological fitness of candidates using scientifically sound methods, which are conducted for the selection of applicants for certain areas and specialties and during the selection of candidates for specific positions that require special personality traits of the specialist (mainly for work in extreme conditions).For most complex professional activities of professionals working in extreme conditions, learning abilities can be successfully predicted based on the study of elements of personality structure.Data on health and physical development, socio-psychological qualities, level of knowledge, skills, psychological characteristics and professional abilities should be taken into account when substantiating the conclusion on professional suitability.To determine the level of professional suitability at the time of the study, various psychological tools are used: achievement tests; tests that diagnose the level of development of professionally important qualities and mental functions, methods of studying motivation.Conclusions. The main task of the system of professional and psychological selection is to create the necessary conditions for each specialist who will be hired, perform their functions well, enjoy their work and bring the greatest public benefit, and each entrant, entering the educational institution, chose the specialty that best suits his individual psychological characteristics, acquired knowledge of the profession that will meet his personal needs and requirements for the benefit of the state.The problem of professional psychological selection of specialists, whose activities take place in difficult and extreme conditions, requires constant study, scientific analysis and improvement, taking into account the requirements of modern society. Research should be aimed at establishing such psychological qualities of personality that are most valuable in the practice of complex and extreme conditions, improving psychodiagnostic tools aimed at identifying the basic individual psychological qualities necessary for successful mastery of a particular specialty, determining a set of professionally important personality traits. features of specific specialties..
