Models of Religious Education in Public Secondary Schools within European Research Context: The examples of France, Russia, and The Netherlands

Popis: This article addresses the complexity of phenomena of religious education in public secondary schools within European borders. According to the recommendations of the Council of Europe, since religious education has a significant role in the promotion of spiritual, moral, social, and cultural developments of individuals and entire people groups, a solid combination of religion and intercultural dialogue in education is crucial for binding and strengthening a present day society. In respond to this dilemma, the article presents a short overview of the three main models of religious education in public secondary schools in Europe. The opening part of the article presents first model where religious education is substituted by Humanistic education (France). The second part of the article, on the example of the Russian Federation, introduces reader to the Culturological model of religious education. Finally, describing the situation with religious education in The Netherlands, the third part of the article provides an overview of the Pluralist model. Conclusion of the article underlines the importance of a correlation of the model of religious education in particular state to its national religious components and juridical legislations.
