Popis: | Hematopoietic growth factors have made a significant impact on the treatment of cancer, primarily in the prevention of infections associated with chemotherapy-induced neutropenia, in progenitor cell transplantation, in chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia, and in chemotherapy-induced anemia. As seen with this review, our basic understanding of hematopoietic growth factors and their clinical potential continue to expand. Work will need to continue, especially with the new thrombopoietic factors, megakaryocyte growth and developing factor, thrombopoietin, and IL-11, to fully categorize their biology and clinical characteristics. |
