Popis:	The majority of patients with symptomatic carotid artery stenosis will benefit from early intervention with carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Carotid artery stenting (CAS) can be an alternative to CEA in selected cases. This paper will deal with the technical aspects of CAS in the emergency setting, including the use of embolic protection devices and will also discuss the pharmacologic management and treatment of complications. A review of the literature will be presented.
