On the basis of the published and authors' data, a suggestion is put forward to one effect that during the early embryogenesis polysomes might bind myosin and interact with actin microfilaments, this interaction activating the contractile function of microfilaments and, at the same time, increasing the rate of transplantation. A speculative mechanisms for the non-muscle contraction, involving actin depolymerization, is described. The hypothesis allows to account for the correlation of intensive protein synthesis with rapid morphogenetic processes, as well as predict some by-effects of protein synthesis inhibitors and of drugs affecting the cytoskeleton organization. |
