Evaluation of the genotoxic potential of municipal waste water discharged into the Paraguay River during periods of flood and drought

Popis:	The cytogenotoxic effects of the waste water from Corumbá and of the water of the Paraguay River, where this sewer discharges, were evaluated in flood and drought seasons. Allium cepa root meristems were exposed to 20 and 72 h treatments. Mitotic index, frequency, and types of aberrant cells were compared to the control. The waste water was genotoxic to this organism. The cycle of flood and drought influenced the levels of genotoxicity observed with the river water.
