Popis: In the past, the children of unmarried women were stigmatized and treated as second-class citizens by both society and the law. As societal attitudes have become more tolerant, however, the laws have been changed to ensure equality for all children. Despite this, there is little evidence to show that the children of unmarried mothers receive the rights guaranteed them by law, or that the birth parents and caregivers are even aware of those rights.
