Popis: Chemokines belong to a large family of chemoattractant molecules involved in the directed migration of immune cells. They achieve their cellular effects by direct interaction with cell surface receptors. One such chemokine receptor is CCR1 which is particularly responsive to the C-C chemokines RANTES and MIP-1alpha. This review seeks to highlight the biology, molecular biology, physiology and pathophysiology of CCR1 and looks at the potential of this receptor as a therapeutic target in autoimmunity and inflammation. In addition, current progress in the discovery and development of CCR1 antagonists is summarized.
