Popis: an increasing number of elderly patients are being accepted for cardiac surgery.Ninety seven consecutive patients older than 75 years, undergoing CABG procedures, were studied to assess short-term survival. They were compared with 975 younger patients undergoing similar procedure during the same time interval.Hospital mortality was increased (12.3% versus 1.3%) in elderly patients. Postoperative complications were also more common in older patients than in patients younger than 75 years.Coronary artery bypass grafting can be performed in elderly patients with acceptable risk.
