The paper presents the results of long-term (1- and 5-year) outcomes of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in Tomsk patients who experienced this disease in 1997. The study was based on the data of the "Acute myocardial infarction register" and the computer-aided information system--the "Outpatient register of CHD patients". A total of 605 out of 975 patients with acute AMI (within the first 28 days) survived in 1997. Following 5 years, there were data on the fate of 544 (89.9%) patients. Within the first year, 47 patients of them died. The main causes of death were recurrent acute coronary attacks (AMI and acute coronary insufficiency). After 5 years 140 more patients died. The basic causes of death were chronic coronary heart disease (CHD) complicated by severe circulatory insufficiency. One- and 5-year mortality rates were 8.7 and 34.4%, respectively. It is concluded that it is necessary to improve medical care to patients with prior AMI in the outpatient setting in the context of treatment of chronic CHD. |
