Popis: G-protein alpha-subunits are modified by combinations of fatty acyl groups. G-protein gamma-subunits are isoprenylated. These modifications play central roles in membrane association of the G-proteins. Attachment of long-chain fatty acyl chains to G-protein alpha-subunits via a thioester linkage allows the possibility of dynamic regulation of membrane attachment and function.
