The authors analyze the results of 36 surgeries: intracapsular implantations of intraocular lenses (IOL), designed by B. N. Alexeev, to patients with unilateral cataracts in the presence of compensated glaucomas (treated conservatively, after surgical or laser interventions). The suggested operation is highly effective: the vision acuity of 0.6 and higher has been recorded in 34 of the 36 patients. Binocular vision has recovered in 34 cases. Hydrodynamic parameters have been normal over a year and longer after surgery; in 2 cases high vision acuity and normal intraocular pressure have been observed for up to 5 yrs. The advantages of B. N. Alexeev's IOL design over iris clips lenses have been demonstrated. A two-stage treatment of this patient population is suggested: (I) antiglaucoma surgery and (II) extracapsular cataract extraction with a simultaneous implantation of IOL, Alexeev's design. No late postoperative complications have been recorded. |
